Stroke play is the most popular scoring system used for individual matches. It is a system in which a score card records each stroke, and the player having the lowest strokes at the end of the course emerges the winner.
Stableford play is another popular scoring system for individual matches. In contrast to most golf scoring systems, the golfer with the most points wins. Golfers are awarded points in this system based on the number of strokes used to complete a hole when compared to the par of that hole. Based on the player's handicap, the par for a hole is adjusted upwards or downwards.
